Water Treatment & Decarbonization ESG contribution

Business model 3:
Zero-emission water treatment for plants and buildings

Wastewater purification × carbon fixation in algal biomass — decarbonisation and better margins together

Bloomo purifies the ammonia and nitrate in wastewater from plants, facilities and buildings, while the harvested algal biomass is converted into biochar to fix carbon. It supports zero-emission requirements and carbon-tax readiness in one move.

Business Model

Context, product, future

Context

Demand for negative emissions is rising across facilities and plants, and a carbon tax is coming into view. Cutting the cost of water treatment and meeting zero-emission requirements are now asked for at the same time.

Product

Bloomo purifies the ammonia and nitrate in plant wastewater, while the algal biomass goes to carbon fixation as biochar and similar routes. Wastewater treatment and carbon credits are delivered as one.

Future

Water purification and decarbonisation through Bloomo improve the operator’s margins. Waste heat and flue gas can also be used. ESG contribution and the creation of carbon credits generate new business value.

Stakeholders

Users and product

USER

Plants, facilities and buildings

  • High water treatment cost
  • Difficulty meeting zero-emission requirements
  • Preparing for a carbon tax
  • Responding to tighter effluent regulation

PRODUCT

Bloomo - Factory

Water purification & carbon fixation system for plants and buildings

  • Green water purification
  • Carbon fixation as biochar
  • Simultaneous removal of ammonia and nitrate
  • Effective use of waste heat and flue gas
Technology

Core technology and features

Wastewater purification

Ammonia, nitrate and organics broken down and removed together by algal metabolism

Biochar production

Harvested algal biomass pyrolysed into biochar, fixing carbon

Use of waste heat

Plant waste heat used for temperature control of the culture, saving energy

Related Application

Resource recovery at sewage treatment plants

An algae-based process improvement that fits into existing sewage treatment plants. Four layers — lower aeration energy, CO₂ fixation, nitrogen/phosphorus recovery and N₂O suppression — turn treatment cost into resource recovery and carbon fixation.
